A Noir Fantasy Mystery in a World Shattered by Magic.
Compatible with 5.5 Edition fantasy roleplaying rules
“Before the Slivers Fall” is a narrative‑driven noir‑fantasy RPG adventure set in the universe of Driftborn: a world of floating Shards, industrial tension, fragile peace, and the echoes of a magical catastrophe that nearly ended everything.
Three centuries ago, the world was torn apart in an event known as the Shattering. Now, the survivors — the Driftborn — live upon floating landmasses called Shards, suspended in the endless Mists and linked by dangerous airship passages.
Magic still lingers here, but it is feared as much as it is needed. Noxis-powered magitech fuels a society dealing with the consequences of the past while Sliverstorms, raw tempests of arcane fury, threaten to tear it apart again.
The project “Driftborn: Before the Slivers Fall” is a self-contained, standalone adventure module. It’s currently being developed by Bruno Bombeke as an indie passion project.
“Driftborn: Before the slivers Fall” will be compatible with 5.5 Edition fantasy roleplaying rules, licensed under Creative Commons, but contains mostly original worldbuilding, classes, feats, maps and equipment unique to the Driftborn setting.
Though the ideas for the setting have existed for many years prior, actual development started in May ’24. In the time since the project has come a long way, and is slowly but steadily progressing towards completion.
Hi! My name is Bruno, I’m the author of Driftborn®.
My RPG journey started about three decades ago when, as a kid in the nineties, I received a free Earthdawn flyer along with my Cidatel-paint starter kit. I’m from Belgium, and at that age I could not yet understand English. but the mystery of that flyer, and the promise of adventure it held, compelled me to learn. It quickly became a regular topic in the playground and a catalyst to hang out with friends.
I can no longer imagine my life without RPG of some kind in it. In my early twenties I discovered larp and soon after I joined a team as a junior writer. Today I have been organizing my own LARP venues for more then a decade, having learned from others with experience, I have over the years written countless adventures, characters and plotlines for my own gaming table and LARP.
Throughout my life, roleplay has broadened my horizons, it helped me through rough times and it still does so today. Directly and indirectly RPG has taught me life-lessons while giving me the joy of doing something I love.
Most importantly, it has rewarded me with invaluable friendships. If this project can help bring that same joy to even one other person, I will be a happy man.
